Curriculum

Davide Comite received the master’s degree (cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering in 2011 and the Ph.D. degree in Electromagnetics and Mathematical Models for Engineering in 2015, both from ‘Sapienza’ University, Rome, Italy, where he is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher. He was a visiting PhD student at the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications of Rennes, University of Rennes 1, France, from March to June 2014 and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center of Advanced Communications, Villanova University, PA, USA, from April to December 2015.

In 2022, Davide was a visiting researcher at Sorbonne University, Paris, and at Toulouse III University/Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphère, Toulouse.

His scientific interests involve the study and design of leaky-wave antennas, including dispersive analyses and full-wave simulations, periodic leaky-wave antennas, and the generation of non-diffracting waves and pulses. He is also interested in the study of the scattering from natural surfaces as well as the characterization of the GNSS reflectometry, the microwave imaging and objects detection performed through GPR, and the broad discipline of Earth observation in general.

Dr. Comite was a recipient of the Marconi Junior Prize by Fondazione Guglielmo Marconi, Bologna, Itay. In 2014, 2017, 2019, he was a recipient of the starting grant assigned by the Sapienza University of Rome to young researchers and in 2016 of a research grant for a short-term scientific mission to Heriot-Watt University in the frame of the COST Action IC1301. He received a travel grant offered by the European Commission to attend the ESA Living Planet Symposium in 2019.

He received an Honorable Mention in the frame of the Minerva Award 2017, assigned by the Sapienza University of Rome and Fondazione Sapienza to postdoctoral researchers who carried out outstanding research activities. In 2017, he was a finalist of the Best Paper Award, Electromagnetics and Antenna Theory Section at the 11th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation. He has been a coauthor of the Best Student Paper Award at the SPIE Remote Sensing and Security+Defence International Symposia in 2017. He was a recipient of the Best Paper Award, Electromagnetics and Antenna Theory Section at the 12th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation in 2018, the Barzilai Prize in 2018 for the Best Scientific Work of under-35 researchers at the National Meeting of Electromagnetics (XXII RiNEm), of the Best Oral Presentation Award from under 35 researchers at the Italian Radar and Remote Sensing Workshop in 2019, and of the Young Scientist Award, Antenna and Microwave Technologies Section, at the Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium 2019, Rome, Italy.

In 2019, 2020, 2021, the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society recognized him as an Outstanding Reviewer for the IEEE Transaction on Antennas and Propagation. In 2020, he was awarded as the best Reviewer for the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observation and Remote Sensing. He currently serves as a reviewer for several international journals. He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observation and Remote Sensing, the EurAAP Journal Reviews of Electromagnetics, the IET Journal of Engineering, the IET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and IEEE ACCESS.

He has been leading the GNSS-R modeling Working Group of the GRSS MIRS technical committee since January 2021. Since 2020, Davide is one of officers of the Young Professional Affinity Group of the IEEE Italian Chapter. Since March 2022 he is Chair of ECAP WG of EuRAAP.
